Three Cameras I Can't Stop Thinking About Right Now

Like most photographers, I probably spend a little too much time watching camera reviews... even though I won’t buy it at the moment.

These are the three cameras that have been living rent-free in my mind lately, and here's why.

1. Nikon ZR (the RED collaboration)

This is the one I'm most curious about. They are saying it’s The World’s most powerful compact cinema camera. WOW.

The idea of Nikon combining its camera technology with RED's cinema expertise is incredibly exciting. As someone who moves constantly between photography and filmmaking, the possibility of having a hybrid camera with true cinematic capabilities feels like the direction the industry is heading.

I'm especially interested to see how this collaboration influences color science, codecs, and the overall filmmaking experience.

Since Nikon acquired RED, everyone is wondering what a true Nikon × RED hybrid camera could look like. If the rumors are true, this camera could completely change the hybrid photo/video market.

The possibility of having RED color science, professional codecs, internal RAW recording, and Nikon's incredible autofocus in a mirrorless body sounds incredibly exciting for filmmakers. The Nikon ZR is definetely on my wish list.

If Nikon manages to combine the best of both worlds, this could become one of the most interesting cameras for creators who shoot both stills and cinematic video.

What I'm hoping for:

  • RED color science

  • Internal ProRes or REDCODE RAW

  • Excellent dynamic range

  • 6K or 8K recording

  • Professional monitoring tools

  • Fast autofocus

  • Great low-light performance

2. Canon EOS R5 Mark II

Canon continues to impress me with its balance between photography and video. I will always be a Canon Girl.

The R5 Mark II seems like an incredible all-rounder: fast autofocus, excellent image quality, reliable video features, and a body that feels ready for everything, from commercial shoots to documentary work and travel.

As someone who photographs people one day and creates cinematic brand films the next, versatility is always high on my wishlist.

It offers a 45MP stacked full-frame sensor, incredibly fast autofocus, and internal 8K RAW recording while maintaining a compact body.

For photographers who also create commercial films, travel content, portraits, and campaigns, it feels like a camera that can handle almost any assignment.

Features I love:

  • 45MP stacked CMOS sensor

  • 8K RAW internal recording

  • 4K up to 120fps

  • Canon's Dual Pixel Autofocus

  • Eye, face, animal and vehicle tracking

  • Excellent image stabilization

  • High-speed continuous shooting

  • Professional weather sealing

3. Fujifilm GFX100RF

This one is a completely different kind of desire.

It's not because I need a medium format camera. It's because I love the idea of slowing down. I’ve also checked a lot of portraits taken with this camera by looking on some other fellow photographer’s instagram. It’s insane.

The GFX100RF feels like a camera that encourages intentional photography. Medium format image quality in a compact body, beautiful Fujifilm color science, and a design that makes you want to carry it everywhere.

I can already imagine using it for personal projects, street photography, portraits, and quiet moments that don't require speed, just observation.

With its 102MP medium format sensor, fixed lens, and beautifully compact design, it feels like a camera made for slowing down and being intentional with every frame.

As someone who creates personal projects alongside commercial work, I find that incredibly inspiring.

I imagine using it for personal series, street photography, portraits, and experimental projects where image quality and atmosphere matter more than speed.

Features I love:

  • 102MP medium format sensor

  • Built-in 35mm f/4 lens (28mm equivalent)

  • Beautiful Fujifilm color science

  • Film Simulations

  • Leaf shutter

  • Extremely compact for a medium format camera

  • Incredible detail for fine art printing

  • A shooting experience that feels slower and more intentional

The truth is... every camera is simply a tool.

My Sony cameras continue to do an amazing job, and they're the reason I can create the work I do today.

But as creatives, I think it's natural to stay curious about the tools that might inspire us to see differently.

What camera is currently on your wishlist? :) Let me know in the comments section!
